Welcome to
TASMAN COTTAGE
HISTORY
Originally part of the Penzance Motel; the cottage and property has been carefully renovated to pay homage to the dark, raw and wild environment of the Tasman Peninsula.
Utilising locally sourced timber and stone, the property blends in with its history and environment. The original cedar windows, floorboards and panelling inside, as well as massive open fire place create a warm and cosy atmosphere. A thoughtfully curated collection of furniture, books, artwork and records are yours to explore, to inspire a sense of creativity and connection.
“This place truly is the edge of the earth. We spent our time hiking precarious cliffs and strange bushland, straining our necks at enormous gum trees that puncture the landscape. The cottage is a warm nest to return to after a day exploring the wild and vast peninsula. The afternoons were spent painting in the golden sun and reading books by the fire. A dreamscape for the creative mind to drift and collect fragments for the future.”

“My time at the cottage was serene. A rare chance to immerse into my painting practice. The days were spent capturing the rugged coastline en plein air, painting from dawn till dusk, exploring wild beaches, and marvelling at the power of waves crashing against the cliffs. The raw beauty of the Tasman Peninsula left me feeling connected with the sea and my painting processes. Eternally grateful for the opportunity to delve into the seclusion of the beautiful cottage and historically significant surroundings.”

‘The Tasman Cottage artist retreat was a magical getaway that allowed me time to focus on deep creative sessions in a stunning location. The ocean has long been an inspiration of my work and being able to actively watch the waves rolling in while composing was a new and magical experience.
The retreat provided a nurturing space to reflect, compose, and experiment without the regular distractions of day to day life. Improvising, playing and composing were interspersed with long beach walks, cliff hikes, surfing, reading by the fire, stargazing from the outdoor bath.
It was so wonderful to have the time to reconnect with both nature and my creative practice more deeply. I left with many new ideas and sketches which I look forward to transforming into their finished forms as an album over the coming months.’
